On October 29, 2019, BBC Africa reported that the Red Cross is warning of “catastrophic” food insecurity due to drought in Zambia if no action is taken. Joseph and Maggie Chikumbi are struggling to feed the students at Good Samaritan School since the price of mealie meal (ground maize which is used to make the Zambian staple nshima) has almost doubled this year (from 80 kwacha to 150). They feed at least 400 students every school day and for some of the students, this is their only meal.
Update from Joseph and Maggie Chikumbi in October 2019: "Can you imagine? We have started building a 3 x 1 classroom block by faith."
Update from Joseph Chikumbi in January 2018: "Right now we are constructing a 2 x 1 classroom to replace the one which was grass thatched."
